Reflection, Jack Becker

In Philippians 3, the Apostle Paul talks about all the hardship that he endured for the sake of Christ. After listing the hardships and going through all of his pedigree, Paul says that “I consider everything a loss for the sake of Christ.” What struck me about this section of scripture is that in verses 12 and 14 Paul uses the phrase “I press on.” As I reflect on that I think of many of my failures and hardships in my life that could have pushed me into despair. But when I dwell upon all the precious promises of Christ (never leave me or forsake me, I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength – to name a few) I am compelled to press on. Forget the things that are past and to “press on towards the goal” – to become more like Christ and one day to spend eternity in His presence. So PRESS ON!
