Sometimes I open my mouth and my mother comes out. Anyone else feel like that? Today is a special day for many of us—it’s the chance to celebrate mothers. Our moms have or had great influence over us. So much so that we can sound like them—from the actual words we say, the attitudes we have, or the outlooks we hold. Whether you are a mom or not, you must understand the impact you potentially have over the lives of others. The words you say are powerful. “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” (Proverbs 18:21) We need to remember to use our words to encourage, love, and heal. Use your words today so that when you open your mouth, life comes out!
Until a few years ago, the only car I would own had to have manual transmission also called a “stick-shift” car. I truly enjoy driving these cars because it is fun and I have more control over speed. If I wanted to go faster all I had to do was to press the clutch and move to a higher gear. As believers we can move to a higher gear by doing a “mind-shift”. All too often we have our minds stuck in low gear not realizing that God has a better way. I was reminded of this just a few days ago as I began to worry about being able to complete a project on time and began to lose sleep. I knew that my mind was in a low gear and I needed a “mind-shift”. I was reminded of the Bible verse that teaches, “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.” Isaiah 26:3. As I focused on Jesus and his promises, it was only then that my mind was at ease which placed me in a much better state to finish the assignment on time. If your mind is in the low gear of worry and anxiety, do a “mind-shift” today and focus on God and you will experience His peace. Have a blessed day in Christ.
