Reflections

Reflection, Art Williams - Elder

When I turn on my television it appears that a growing segment of the news is spent on the harsh rhetoric, terroristic violence and increasingly common large scale natural disasters. In times like these, I am glad we have a Savior which is Christ our Lord. The Bible tells us in Psalms 112:6-8 “Surely the righteous will never be shaken; they will be remembered forever. They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord.” Today as always, God calls us to a higher level of awareness. Isaiah 26:3 “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast because they trust in you.” The screaming headlines of today do not warrant fear, but prayerful action. I am called by faith in Christ to put his love in action. John 13:34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” God loves us, blesses us and sustains us with his love. He is the one who took God’s wrath against our sins upon himself and brought us into fellowship with God and he is the forgiveness for our sins— not only ours but all the world’s. Be encouraged!

Reflection, Ben Ward - Worship Pastor

Did you know that in the Church calendar Easter is a full 50 days? Most of us are used to having that glorious celebration on Easter Sunday and then looking forward to next year. But the early Church felt that there should be more to mark the greatest event in all of history: the resurrection of the Son of God. So they created Eastertide which runs from Easter Sunday to Pentecost. This is the longest season in the Church calendar. It says to us that the feast is always longer than the fast (Lent is 40 days). Generations of the Church say to us that this is the most important part of who we are as believers; we are resurrection people!

It has been said of our culture, “We know how to anticipate an event, but we don’t know how to sustain it.” This Easter season let’s find a way to celebrate new life. Some people plant a garden or begin learning a new language. Just like we sometimes fast during Lent may we feast and celebrate that Jesus has come to bring us life - life to the full!
