Reflections

Reflection, Jack Crabtree

What should a pastor do when he wants to skip church? Honest confession---there are some Tuesday nights when I don’t want to be at the SRC prayer service. But I have to go---I’m the leader in Syosset. Some weeks I’m dragging myself to the meeting apparently forgetting how vital prayer is to not only the mission of the church, but to my personal walk with Jesus. But amazing changes happen when I get there. I arrive tired and distracted, but I drive home feeling cleansed and refreshed like I spent $100 at a spa. It’s not just me. Others tell me they experience a significant re-fueling. Praying with other people helps me keep my focus on God and deepens my awareness of how the Holy Spirit is working in my life. Prayer attacks my self-centered attitudes and widens my love for God and my brothers and sisters in Christ. I’m glad I have to be there every week. God gives me the spiritual “spa treatment” I need.

Reflection, Donna Brady

It’s April and the cold is (finally) giving way to warmth. We open our windows to let in sunlight and fresh air because it makes a home ‘feel’ fresh and new in some way – the way I want my body, my mind & soul to feel! This week, driving home from work, the lyrics “Open up let the light in” deeply resonated in my spirit over and over as I listened to a favorite worship album.  We have so many windows and so many doors in our lives to be opened to the Spirit of the Living Christ!  All these years with Christ and I still find more! 2 Cor. 4:6 says:  “For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ.” I invite you to go bravely with me. I want to let the Light of Christ, and fresh wind of the Holy Spirit go freely through the rooms of my heart; to give unrestrained, unguarded permission for God to move around and bring light and life to ALL the nooks and crannies. Amen to THAT!
