Reflection, Jack Crabtree
What should a pastor do when he wants to skip church? Honest confession---there are some Tuesday nights when I don’t want to be at the SRC prayer service. But I have to go---I’m the leader in Syosset. Some weeks I’m dragging myself to the meeting apparently forgetting how vital prayer is to not only the mission of the church, but to my personal walk with Jesus. But amazing changes happen when I get there. I arrive tired and distracted, but I drive home feeling cleansed and refreshed like I spent $100 at a spa. It’s not just me. Others tell me they experience a significant re-fueling. Praying with other people helps me keep my focus on God and deepens my awareness of how the Holy Spirit is working in my life. Prayer attacks my self-centered attitudes and widens my love for God and my brothers and sisters in Christ. I’m glad I have to be there every week. God gives me the spiritual “spa treatment” I need.
