Reflection, Frank O’Neill

Happy New Year!

I love Christmas and enjoy giving and receiving presents. I also like surprises. Unfortunately I am often asked to pick out things and then “pretend” to be surprised. Ugh!  This year I was so blessed by the look on the faces of my children as they opened some special gifts I surprised them with.  I reflected on the great warmth and joy I felt at seeing them respond.  I then thought of Jesus’ words Matthew 7:11:

“If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”

I believe it gives Him joy to see us respond to His gifts. Ask and you shall receive!

Reflection, Ben Ward

Father of all the mercy and grace in our lives. Hope of all nations, cities and states from tiny to hard-to-imagine proportions. Spirit of all comfort and power and inspiration and beauty. Our God who is three-in-one, would You permeate every area of our lives? From the quiet before we wake up to the clamor of our crazy commutes to the easy joy of watching over our children’s hard-fought sleep. Would You make Your warmth and peace and prodding and leading known to us? To those around us? That peace that is desperately needed. That ability to love and listen to our neighbor. That propensity to forgive and seek to understand when all we want is to retreat into familiar and exclusive. Father, Son, Spirit move us. We need You. We love You. We welcome You today.
